Michelle “Mimi” Lucurto, RN – Administrative Director

I am Michelle “Mimi” Lucurto, RN. I have been working in the medical field for over 17 years as a registered nurse. I have watched as our hospital’s patient population has gotten sicker over the years. Many of my friends, neighbors and family members have developed chronic diseases, some of which have been fatal. In the attempt to help them and prevent myself from suffering the same fate, I began to do research. What I found out was that medicine does not seem to be a route to wellness. There is no quick fix pill that can make you well. God made being well very simple and provided everything we need to do so. It is not complicated and you don’t need to see someone who you think is smarter than you to get answers. It is time for a new paradigm.
Out of this awakening was born the Wellness Program at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, moderated by Fr. Stephen Craft and myself. The goal is to gather the community and educate them on those things we have learned can make them much healthier people in mind, body and spirit.
In addition to the above, the outcome of this program has been networking opportunities that reach far into the New Orleans community. Through this networking and barrage of information from so many sources the idea for Sanctuary Farm and Market was born. We feel God has led us on this path and will provide what is needed for this project’s success. Our community needs it.

The Rev. Stephen Craft – Spiritual Director

I am Fr. Craft, the priest and rector of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church. I became interested and motivated by this concept when my wife was diagnosed with Leukemia. After her diagnosis, she progressed through the stages of medical care including enduring the traumatic experiences involved with and leading up to her eventual stem cell transplant. Medicine was not able to save her life. Although alternative treatments may not have saved her life, we were never presented with any options to medical treatment. My mother was also diagnosed with breast cancer and chose for herself a less aggressive medical treatment protocol than that which was encouraged by her medical team. We believe options are available and every known option should be presented to every patient so they can decide for themselves how their bodies will be treated. Furthermore, we believe that each individual knows their body better than any medical professional could possibly know them.

Jennifer Doucette, RN – Certified ApiaristJenn Pic

Jennifer Doucette comes to us as an experienced hobbyist beekeeper.
I was certified in North Carolina during my Katrina hiatus raising bees in my backyard.   More recently, I was approached by friend and co-worker, Michelle about raising bees for Sanctuary Farms.  I  jumped at the chance to revisit my long lost craft.  It is with much enthusiasm and new focus that I begin AGAIN!  I am grateful for the opportunity. It is a team effort of course and I have many curious and interesting conversations with friends and strangers alike about the bees and what the apiary entails. The friends are becoming educated participants while the strangers are becoming friends.

Jimmy Delery – Local Growing Advisor /Community Improvement AdvocateJimmy Delery

Jimmy is growing food on vacant land all over town and distributing it to local restaurants interested in providing the very best fresh local produce.  In addition to being a valuable source of the best methods of growing in our local environment, he allows Sanctuary Farms to glean his fields to provide food for our education programs.

Joy Miller, RNC, SCM – Holistic Modalities ConsultantFullSizeRender

I am Joy Miller, RNC, SCM. I worked in the medical field for 49 years as a registered nurse and recently retired. I have always been interested in holistic medicine. I have been a Reiki practitioner since 2000. I have experienced first hand for myself, my friends and even my pets, the benefits of essential oils and am currently taking a certification course in aroma therapy.  We have moved far from the path of early medicine and I believe we have lost our focus. I hope that my work to help people achieve wellness can bring us back in line with what God intended and be an example to others.

We have partnered with landscape designer, Eco-Urban, to build over 1000 square feet of raised bed garden space in the rear right corner of the church property. This area will serve as a place to grow foods for the Wellness Program and provide a space for members to grow their own fresh foods and learn valuable growing skills.Olimometer 2.52
